Review
Corel Painter X is the latest version of Painter, developed by Corel Corporation. This is a professional editor and composer for pictures, illustrations and sketches, specially geared to artists, designers and photographers. This version has new tools which allow more complex and precise works, and speed up the editing and retouching. Another advantage is that it runs on both Windows and Macintosh, and has high compatibility with other programs for editing and composition, as it reads and creates files in many formats widely used by designers, such as Adobe Photoshop and Wacom
While the application is a little heavy, has no excessive demands of RAM and processor, considering it’s a professional editor. The system requirements for each type of operating system are as follows:
For Windows:
® Windows Vista, Windows XP or Windows 2000 (each with latest service pack applied)
® Pentium III 700 MHz or greater
256 MB of RAM (512 MB recommended)
360 MB hard disk space
For Mac OS:
Mac OS X (version 10.3.9 or higher with latest revision applied)
® Macintosh computer with a 700 MHz or faster Power PC ® G4, G5 Power PC processor or Intel ®
256 MB of RAM (512 MB recommended)

Some of the new tools to improve performance with respect to previous versions, which allow more precise and efficient compositions, are the followings:
RealBristle Painting System ™ enhances the responsiveness of brushes and better represents the interaction between brush, canvas and painting.
New composition tools: for example Divine Proportion and Rule of Thirds
Underpainting, with new artistic styles
SmartStroke ™ Painting, which allows the paint to dynamically adhere to the curves and generates dynamic changes in size, pressure and brush stroke.
Match Palette Effect: combines the color and intensity between two images.
Universal Mixer Palette: improving control of multicolored selections
Dodge and Burn tool: enables to overexposure or subexposure specific areas of an image
Workspace Manager: facilitates the export and backup tasks.
It also includes online access to Art Gallery, an extensive collection of original art works from international artists, including artistic profiles of them.
The complete original license costs $ 399, but those with licenses from previous versions will be able to access to an update which cost is $ 199. |
